Jessica Hess

Registered Dietitian & Massage Therapist

Jessica Hess is a Registered Dietitian, Certified Personal Trainer, and Registered Massage Therapist. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Food & Nutritional Sciences from the University of Alberta in 2009 and has been helping people manage their nutrition for health and performance ever since.

Aside from one-on-one nutrition consulting, Jess has taught nutrition to the Personal Fitness Trainer students at NAIT and works as a designated Sport Science Professional with Team Alberta. Using her sport nutrition expertise, she helps coaches and athletes reach peak performance and optimal health in preparation for the Canada Summer & Winter Games.

Through personal training and massage therapy, Jess has been able to help many of her clients re-introduce pain-free physical activity to their lives. Using a variety of assessments and unique modalities such as Fascial Stretch Therapy and Functional Range Conditioning, Jess takes the time to determine each client’s unique limitations and which treatments will help them progress toward their functional mobility goals.

Jess is a big believer that as individuals, we are the experts of own our bodies. As such, she strives to share her expertise in the health and wellness field while allowing her clients to explore and express what works best for them. Her ultimate goal is to help guide her clients to a place where they are confident in their bodies and what their bodies can do for them, no matter what shape or size.

Food Philosophy

Having spent a lot of time traveling and studying abroad, Jessica developed a non-restrictive approach to healthy eating. Time spent preparing meals and eating with the locals in Italy and Mexico revealed new worlds of ingredients and ways to enjoy food that continue to influence her food philosophy today.

Although she is a big believer in the importance of eating a variety of colourful vegetables each day, she would never say no to a plate of tamales and re-fried pinto beans. After all, food is meant to fuel the body AND the soul.

Movement Philosophy

Jessica’s motivation for staying fit and strong is so that she can get out there and do the things she really loves with pain-free, natural movement.

If there is any possibility to replace a gym session with an active outdoor adventure, there would be no hesitation on her part. She gets excited about activities that put her in touch with nature including hiking, cycling, birding, cross-country skiing, and dancing in the rain.

Our bodies are designed to move. Sometimes, they just need a little guidance and motivation before they’re ready to get back out there and explore.
